In his address to the U.N. General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that China and India are the main sponsors of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, and criticized several NATO countries for continuing to buy Russian energy.

He made the statement on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the high-level session of the UN General Assembly, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil,” the U.S. President stated.

He also pointed out that even some NATO member states have not stopped importing large volumes of Russian energy.

Trump reiterated that he is working to stop the killings in Ukraine, and noted that he had previously considered resolving Russia’s war to be the easiest of the conflicts he had dealt with.

“But you know in war, you never know what's going to happen," Trump said. "There are always lots of surprises, both good and bad."

Trump also recalled that early predictions claimed Russia would win in three days, but that didn’t happen.

"It's not making Russia look good. It's making them look bad. No matter what happens from here on out,” he said.

According to Trump, the only question now is how many more lives will be senselessly lost on both sides.

As reported by Ukrinform, the high-level general debate of the UN General Assembly opened today in New York. This year’s theme, which will feature speeches from around 150 heads of state and government, is: “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”
