Fico accuses Zelensky of "intimidating" heads of state – Ukrainian Embassy issues response

The Embassy of Ukraine in the Slovak Republic regretted the anti-Ukrainian statements of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

This is stated in a post on the Ukrainian diplomatic mission's Facebook page, Ukrinform reports.

“Instead of another accusation by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky - this time in an attempt to intimidate heads of state and government who intend to visit Moscow on May 9 - the embassy would recommend that our Slovak partners study, review and analyze the statements of the Ukrainian leader more closely, which concerned only the fact that the Ukrainian side does not rule out provocations by the Russian Federation on May 9 and shifting the blame for security violations to Ukraine and cannot, therefore, guarantee their safety,” the embassy said.

Ukrainian diplomats also emphasized that the three-day truce proposed by the Kremlin is not a serious path to peace. The embassy recalled that Ukraine unconditionally agreed to a complete ceasefire on March 11, “while Russia constantly rejects this option and puts forward new demands, manipulates, and escalates terror.”

“In order to restore peace, we need security measures and a long, sustainable ceasefire and silence, not just some propaganda calls or actions,” the embassy emphasized.

Ukrainian diplomats also emphasized that the Russian military, which will march on Red Square on May 9, definitely has nothing to do with the victory over Nazism.

“However, it is quite likely that among them will be those involved in a number of war crimes against Ukraine and against Ukrainians in the course of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. Whether such a parade is worth attending and applauding is a rhetorical question,” the embassy summarized.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky said he did not rule out Russia organizing provocations on May 9 for political dividends.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he would attend the military parade in Russia on May 9, and that President Zelensky “should not threaten” other countries with millions of people and their safety during the celebrations.
