FM Sybiha: Zelensky’s letter chance for Putin to end war
He made the statement during a press conference in Vinnytsia, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“This letter is, in fact, a chance for Putin to finally end the war and put a stop to this aggression. It provides an objective assessment of where we stand today. Ukraine seeks a just peace. We want to end this war. Once again, we can clearly see who is interested in prolonging the aggression,” Sybiha said.
According to him, Ukraine has realistic proposals on how to make the fullest possible use of diplomatic instruments.
“This letter, sent by the President, has been made public. We have also transmitted it through diplomatic channels and officially registered it with international organizations, including the United Nations,” the minister noted.
He stressed that Ukraine has nothing to hide, while “if Putin is hiding, it only deepens negative trends” and creates even greater threats to Russian society and Russia’s economy.
“This letter clearly demonstrates that. The time has come for a meeting, the time has come for talks at this level in order to bring a just and dignified peace closer,” Sybiha stated.
As reported by Ukrinform, on June 4, Volodymyr Zelensky wrote an open letter to Putin proposing a personal meeting aimed at ending the war. According to Zelensky, such a meeting could take place in third countries that traditionally serve as venues for international negotiations, including Switzerland, Türkiye, or Arab states. At the same time, he emphasized that he does not consider Moscow or Kyiv as possible locations for the talks.
