Kallas at UN Security Council: We should all stand by Ukraine

Ukrinform
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has called on all UN member states to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

As reported by a Ukrinform correspondent in New York, she made this statement at a session of the UN Security Council.

"Ukrainians… deserve to choose their own future," she emphasized. "And we should all stand by them. This war is neither a 'European war' nor a conflict between neighbors, nor a proxy war." (Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio referred to it as a "proxy war" between Moscow and Washington.)

Kallas noted that the consequences of Russia’s war extend far beyond Ukraine, particularly affecting global food and energy markets. "Also because Russia has brought others – North Korea, Iran – to support its colonial battle too," she added.

The supply of weapons from North Korea to Russia, the presence of North Korean troops on Russian territory, and North Korea's nuclear program are serious violations of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, Kallas stated. Meanwhile, Iran's military support for Russia, including the supply of ballistic missiles, poses a significant threat to international security, she added.

"Therefore, we must all focus our efforts on achieving, swiftly, a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," the EU High Representative concluded.
