UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that any agreement to end the war in Ukraine must include security guarantees to prevent Russia from violating it.

He stated this while speaking in the House of Commons, according to The Guardian, Ukrinform reports.

"The whole point of ensuring that there’s a lasting peace – and that any deal, if there’s a deal, is defended – is to avoid conflict, to ensure that we do have peace," the UK Prime Minister stated.

He stressed that the path to peace lies in guaranteeing the terms of any agreement, as the greatest risk arises “if Putin thinks that he can breach any deal that may be arrived at.”

Starmer declined to comment on reports that the U.S. is limiting intelligence-sharing on Ukraine. However, he reiterated the need for unity among Western allies:

"I have always been clear that we need to ensure that the US, the UK, Europe and Ukraine, are working together, but we must not choose between the US and Europe."

Previously, Starmer stated that efforts to maintain peace in Europe and end the war in Ukraine must have strong U.S. backing. Meanwhile, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz noted that President Donald Trump aims to end the Russia-Ukraine war, but believes security guarantees for Ukraine should come from Europe.
