Nausėda outlines three urgent EU steps to support Ukraine
He shared his appeal on the social media platform X, according to Ukrinform.
"First, on Ukraine: use frozen Russian assets immediately to support Ukraine's military; provide €20bn in additional defense aid, as proposed by Ursula von der Leyen; discuss a European peacemaker force,” the Lithuanian President wrote.
Nausėda also outlined actions the EU should take for itself.
Second, on the EU: member states to invest more in defense; strengthen our defense industry significantly; more funds for Andrius Kubilius portfolio; joint projects with the UK and Norway," he added.
Nausėda noted that he would discuss these issues with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on March 2 and with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday.
"This leads to a special European Council on March 6, where important decisions must be made!" he concluded.
As reported by Ukrinform, Lithuania raised over €5.7 million through the Radarom! solidarity campaign marking the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The funds will be used to supply Ukraine with drones and anti-drone systems.
