Japan will reopen its embassy in Kyiv and fully resume the work of its diplomatic mission.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal wrote this on Telegram following a meeting with Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, Ukrinform reports.

"Japan and the Japanese people stand side by side with Ukraine in defense of true values. I once again made sure of this during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in New York. I thanked for supporting Ukraine during the Russian aggression. An important topic of our conversation - the safety of nuclear facilities," he said.

Shmyhal informed the Prime Minister of Japan about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and Russia's shelling of the South Ukraine NPP.

It is noted that the prime ministers coordinated positions on measures to demilitarize the ZNPP. "We count on Japan's assistance in this matter at the G7 level," Shmyhal noted.

In addition, he thanked Japan for its participation in the Crimea Platform, financial, humanitarian and political support. The parties also discussed the need for increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and creating a tribunal to hold the top leadership of the Russian Federation accountable for crimes against Ukrainians.

During the meeting, Fumio Kishida assured that his country would continue to be a "powerful advocate for Ukraine" at the G7 level and at the UN.
