Kuleba: Russia’s aggression against Ukraine lasting longer than World War II
“The Russian aggression against Ukraine, which led to the illegal occupation of Crimea and parts of Donbas, is already lasting longer than the Second World War,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said at the UNSC High-level Arria Formula online meeting “75 Years from the End of the Second World War on European Soil", the Ministry’s press service informs.
The minister reminded that the Kremlin’s aggression unleashed at the very heart of Europe resulted in over 13,000 people killed and more than 27,000 wounded.
Russia tries to rehabilitate a totalitarian state which had existed during Stalin’s rule and at the same time creates the image of an external enemy for Russians to justify its aggression against neighbors, like Ukraine and Georgia, and the hybrid war against many other countries, Kuleba emphasized.
“Disregard for the historical truth and manipulation of the legacy of the WWII bear a striking resemblance of what was happening in Europe in the 1930s of the past century. This is a lesson to be learned again,” the Foreign Minister of Ukraine said.
An online meeting of the UN Security Council chaired by Estonia on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe was held on Friday. Representatives of more than 70 countries discussed how to avoid a recurrence of such a tragedy, as well as the intentions of some countries to undermine the post-war world order.
