2,400 hectares of forest burn near Chernihiv region border due to Russian aggression

According to Ukrinform, the Northern Forest Office reported this on Facebook.

“A large-scale fire caused by Russian military aggression is raging in the forests of the northern Chernihiv region. The fire broke out on May 5 in forest areas potentially contaminated with explosive ordnance,” the post states.

It is noted that the fire has engulfed the territories of the Yelynske and Tykhonovytske forest districts of the Koriukivka Forest Administration of the SE Forests of Ukraine. The estimated area of the fire is about 2,400 hectares.

The forestry office explained that, due to the extremely complex security situation, a full-scale firefighting effort is currently impossible. In particular, enemy drones are constantly being detected over the area, posing a direct threat to employees of the SE Forests of Ukraine and State Emergency Service rescuers.

“Forest rangers and rescue workers are constantly monitoring the situation and working to contain the fire at a safer distance from the border,” the forestry office added.

As reported by Ukrinform, on May 5, a large-scale fire broke out in the Zakarpattia region near Volovets on the slopes of the Borzhava Range.
