Iranian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Hamid Baeidinejad in a post on Twitter expressed his apology for his wrong statement about the Ukrainian plane crash.

“In my statement yesterday to the UK media, I conveyed the official findings of responsible authorities in my country that missile could not be fired and hit the Ukrainian plane at that period of time. I appologise and regret for conveying such wrong findings,” he wrote.

As reported, Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) flight PS752 crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8, killing all 176 passengers and crew members on board.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the victims include 11 nationals of Ukraine (two passengers and nine crew members), 63 Canadians, 82 Iranians, 10 Swedes, four citizens of Afghanistan, three Germans, and three British nationals.

Previously, the Iranian side stated that the crash had been caused by technical problems. Early on Saturday, Iran announced that its military “unintentionally” shot down the Ukrainian aircraft. The plane was mistaken for a “hostile target” after it turned towards a “sensitive military centre.”

President of Iran Hassan Rouhani apologized for downing the UIA passenger plane by Iranian military and expressed his condolences to the families of victims.
