MPs may consider bill on land market on Jan 14

Economic advisor to the Prime Minister Oleksiy Mushak wrote about this on his Facebook page.

"The consideration of the ‘land’ law No. 2178-10 in the parliament has been unblocked. Under the Rules, the text of the law for second reading must be submitted 10 days before the date of consideration. A comparison chart is available on the Parliament’s portal. Accordingly, on the first plenary day, January 14, the Parliament will be able to vote for land reform," he wrote.

Mushak also commented that 4,018 amendments had been filed to six pages of the bill on 2,528 pages, including more than 2,000 of them related to the referendum.

As Ukrinform reported, on November 13, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada approved the bill on the land market (No. 2178-10) at first reading. In particular, the draft law provides for the lifting of the land sale ban from October 1, 2020. According to the document, persons who can acquire ownership of agricultural land are expected to be citizens of Ukraine, territorial communities, the state, legal entities of Ukraine, foreign nationals and stateless persons in the event of inheritance and the obligation to sell the land within one year.

On December 17-18, Ukrainian farmers conducted rallies against the land reform initiated by the government.

President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested holding a referendum on the sale of Ukrainian agricultural land to foreigners.
