Danilov considers cybersecurity a priority of NSDC

Cybersecurity is one of the most important priorities for the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov has stated.

He said this during a meeting with a delegation of the U.S. Senate staff, the NSDC’s press service reported.

Danilov called cybersecurity a key component of national security. "In the next five to ten years, cyber weapons will become the number one in the world, even nuclear weapons will take back seat," he said, adding that in a globalized world where wars are increasingly hybrid, the protection of information and devices processing it is crucial as there are no borders for cybercrime.

In this context, the NSDC secretary informed about the work on the updated Cybersecurity Strategy and noted that the NSDC Office is working on the development of the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity (NCCC) in accordance with modern challenges, the main task of which is to identify, forecast possible and identify real cyberthreats, as well as to provide the NSDC with analytical materials.

He also stressed that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky pays much attention to the issues of cybersecurity, and following the meeting of the NSDC of Ukraine on December 7 this year, a number of decisions have been made in this area.

In turn, members of the U.S. delegation noted that Ukraine is responding to cyberattacks. They stressed unanimous support for Ukraine in the Congress and the Senate, which was particularly testified by the allocation of $300 million in military aid, as well as by introducing sanctions against the Russian energy industry.

The parties emphasized that cyberattacks are "huge challenges" for Ukraine and the U.S., exchanged experience of their prevention and localization, and emphasized the importance and potential of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of combating cyberincidents.

The sides also exchanged views on the security situation in Ukraine and the world. The NSDC secretary also announced the results of the Normandy format negotiations and the measures taken by Ukraine to prepare the summit. The members of the delegation praised the steps of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky aimed at achieving peace in eastern Ukraine and emphasized his contribution to the release of sailors and political prisoners.
