Occupation authorities in Crimea exert pressure on Mejlis on the eve of presidential election in Russia

The occupation authorities in Crimea exert unprecedented pressure on Crimean Tatars, forcing them to participate in the illegal presidential election.

This is said in an appeal on behalf of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people published on the Facebook page of Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov.

"The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people notes unprecedented pressure and direct threats against Crimean Tatars on the part of Russian invaders and local collaborators in order to force them to participate in the illegal election," the statement reads.

The document states that the majority of the Crimean Tatar people living in all cities and regions of Crimea are "full of dignity and courage to resist the blackmail and threats that come from the Russian occupiers."

Therefore, the Mejlis sums up that "Crimean Tatars will not take part in the illegal election on March 18, 2018, which will be conducted by the Russian invaders in the temporarily occupied Crimea."

The Mejlis will continue to support the Crimean Tatar people, as well as other residents of Crimea, regardless of nationality and religion, in their non-participation in the illegal election of March 18, 2018, which will be conducted by the Russian Federation.
