Ukraine downs 40 missiles, 602 drones during Russia's large-scale air assault
The Ukrainian Air Force announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

Beginning at 18:00 on June 1, Russia carried out a large-scale combined strike using attack drones as well as air-, sea-, and ground-launched missiles. Kyiv was the primary target, while Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava region, and several other regions also came under attack.
In total, Air Force radar units detected 729 aerial threats, including 73 missiles and 656 unmanned aerial vehicles of various types.
The missiles launched by Russia included:
- 8 Zircon (3M22) anti-ship missiles launched from occupied Crimea and Russia's Kursk region;
- 33 Iskander-M ballistic missiles launched from Russia's Bryansk, Kursk, and Rostov regions, as well as occupied Crimea;
- 27 Kh-101 cruise missiles launched from Russia's Vologda region;
- 5 Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Caspian Sea.
Russia also deployed 656 drones, including Shahed attack drones, Gerbera and Italmas UAVs, Banderol loitering munitions, and Parodiya decoy drones. They were launched from multiple locations in Russia, including Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from Hvardiiske and Chauda in occupied Crimea.
Ukraine's air defense effort involved fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare systems, drone-defense units, and mobile fire groups.
According to preliminary data as of 08:30 on June 2, Ukrainian defenders destroyed or suppressed 642 aerial targets, including:
- 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
- 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 3 Kalibr cruise missiles;
- 602 drones of various types.
Preliminary reports indicate that 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and 33 attack drones struck 38 locations across Ukraine. Debris from intercepted drones was recorded at 15 locations.
The Air Force noted that the attack was still ongoing, with several Russian attack drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
