The European Union has welcomed the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in terms of judicial reform.

This has been said in a joint statement by the High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Johannes Hahn on the vote on constitutional amendments related to the judiciary by the Parliament of Ukraine.

"The adoption in the final reading of constitutional amendments related to the judiciary by the Verkhovna Rada in Ukraine is a crucial step towards strengthening the judiciary, improving its efficiency, safeguarding its independence and impartiality, and combating corruption," reads the statement.

"We look forward to the implementation of a comprehensive reform of the judiciary enabled by today's vote. In this context, the EU remains committed to support the Ukrainian authorities in delivering concrete results swiftly," it said.

"We hope today's vote will create momentum for the adoption in the final reading of the pending constitutional amendments related to decentralization and other important reforms," Mogherini and Hahn stated.
