Azarov: Ukraine has every chance of hosting 2022 Olympics
KYIV, August 1 /UKRINFORM/. Ukraine has every chance of getting the right to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov announced this at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, according to the media liaisons department of the secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
"We will make every effort to properly stage the European basketball championship, which will be held in Odesa in 2015, as well as to get right to the host the Winter Olympic Games in the Carpathians in 2022. President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge informed me at a meeting in London that the committee had considered the conditions for the games in the Ukrainian Carpathians and made a preliminary positive conclusion," Azarov said.
Therefore, he said, Ukraine can move from words to deeds here. The prime minister said that the success of the EURO 2012 European Football Championship and a positive assessment of the potential of the Carpathians increased Ukraine's chances of getting the right to stage the Winter Olympics.
"Although this event is several times larger in terms of scale and complexity than a football championship, Ukraine has ten years to build sports facilities and infrastructure and strengthen the Ukrainian team in winter sports," Azarov said.
