Russians use fakes to pass off their own frontline supply problems as Ukrainian

Ukrinform
Russian propaganda has forged a Ukrainian media headline to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russian media outlets and pro-Kremlin Telegram channels are spreading a screenshot of a news headline claiming that Ukrainian soldiers in the Kharkiv region are allegedly preparing for “cannibalism” due to food shortages.

This is a fake. Russian propagandists altered a headline from a Ukrainian online media outlet using graphic editing software. The original article states that it is Russian invading forces in the Zaporizhzhia region who, due to a lack of food, are on the verge of resorting to cannibalism.

The Ukrainian outlet cites the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (known as HUR), which published intercepted conversations of Russian soldiers.

The HUR also noted that cannibalism is becoming a common practice among Russian troops. In June this year, it was reported that a serviceman of Russia’s 68th Motor Rifle Division consumed his fellow soldier over a two-week period.

In this way, Russian propagandists are attempting to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine and shift the Russian army’s own problems onto Ukraine.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Russia had earlier spread a fake claiming that Ukrainian children were being forced to kneel during a minute of silence.
