Pokrovsk and Huliaipole sectors hottest as 216 clashes reported on frontline over past day

A total of 216 combat clashes between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian troops were recorded over the past day, with the fiercest fighting taking place in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole sectors.

According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook in its operational update as of 08:00 on Saturday, May 23.

Russian forces carried out 83 airstrikes, dropping 264 guided aerial bombs. They also launched 9,753 kamikaze drones and conducted 3,195 attacks on Ukrainian troop positions and populated areas, including 34 strikes using multiple launch rocket systems.

Russian aviation struck, in particular, areas near the settlements of Tovstodubove and Pustohorod in the Sumy region.

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation, missile forces, and artillery struck a Russian command post, nine troop concentration areas, and an enemy artillery system.

In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, six combat engagements took place. Russian forces carried out 81 shelling attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, including one using multiple launch rocket systems, and launched five airstrikes involving 10 guided bombs.

In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Russian troops launched seven assaults on Ukrainian positions near Ternove, Hraniv, and Novovasylivka.

In the Kupiansk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled five Russian attacks near Hlushkivka and Novoplatonivka.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian forces repelled 12 attempts by Russian troops to advance near Torske, Ozerne, Drobysheve, Dibrova, Yampil, and Lyman.

In the Sloviansk sector, Ukrainian troops stopped three Russian attempts to advance near Zakitne and Rai-Oleksandrivka.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian attacks near Nykyforivka and Tykhonivka.

In the Kostiantynivka sector, Russian forces carried out 16 attacks near Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, Ivanopillia, Novodmytrivka, and Stepanivka.

In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian defenders stopped 42 Russian assault operations near Vilne, Bilytske, Rodynske, Oleksandrivka, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Toretske, Dorozhnie, Novooleksandrivka, Udachne, Kucheriv Yar, Novopavlivka, and Novopidhorodnie.

In the Oleksandrivka sector, Russian troops attacked twice near Verbove and Zaporizke.

In the Huliaipole sector, 32 Russian attacks were recorded near Nove Zaporizhzhia, Zlahoda, Solodke, Staroukrainka, Dobropillia, Hirke, Zaliznychne, Vozdvyzhivka, Olenokostiantynivka, and Charivne.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russian troops did not conduct active offensive operations.

In the Prydniprovske sector, Ukrainian units repelled two Russian attacks near Hola Prystan and Zaplava.

No signs of Russian offensive group formations were detected in the Volyn and Polissia sectors.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, the total combat losses of Russian forces in the war against Ukraine from February 24, 2022, to May 23, 2026, have reached approximately 1,354,810 personnel, including 950 troops killed over the past day.
