Ukraine unlocks another source of funding within PURL – FM Sybiha
In addition, another source of funding was unlocked, which will help cover additional needs within the framework of the initiative.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
According to him, one of the key tasks assigned to the Ukrainian delegation by President Volodymyr Zelensky during the NATO ministerial meeting in Sweden was the development of the PURL program.
“This is a critically important initiative for the procurement of American weapons, covering the lion’s share of Ukraine’s needs in defending against Russian ballistic strikes. Following the negotiations, we have received new contribution commitments. I will not yet disclose the specific amounts or countries involved – announcements will come later. In addition, we unlocked another source of financing that will help cover part of the needs within the PURL framework,” Sybiha said.
He added that given the scale of Russian terror, work on expanding PURL continues, and Ukraine is calling on partners to maintain their support.
The Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude to all allies making critically important contributions to PURL, to NATO for administering the program, and to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte for his efforts in securing additional support for the initiative.
The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative is a mechanism focused on supplying Ukraine with weapons from a list of priority needs. It allows NATO member states to finance deliveries of U.S. weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Sybiha said he had substantive talks with Mark Rutte after arriving at the Alliance’s ministerial meeting in the Swedish city of Helsingborg.
