Oleksandr Usyk voted World's best boxer for 2012
KYIV, October 15 /UKRINFORM/. Olympic champion Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine has been awarded the Best Elite Men Boxer of the Year title by the International Boxing Association (AIBA). Usyk topped the list of winners for the 2012 AIBA Annual Awards Ceremony, the AIBA official website said.
“The charismatic 25-year-old was one of the stand-out performers of the London 2012 Olympic Games where he took the Heavyweight (91kg) gold medal in style. After his triumph at the AIBA World Boxing Championships Baku 2011, the 191cm, 6ft 3 in tall southpaw from Simferopol from the Crimea delighted boxing fans worldwide with his all-action displays and 'Hopak' dance celebration in the British capital,” the AIBA said in a statement.
Also, the Best WSB Boxer of the Year award went to Ukrainian Sergiy Derevyanchenko. “The 26-year-old orthodox Ukrainian gave his team the Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder the decisive advantage in the WSB Team Final before claiming a second successive victory at the Individual Championships last season to extend his unbeaten record to 13-0. Hugely accomplished, his near flawless style continues to earn him many admirers,” the report says.
The 2012 AIBA Annual Awards Ceremony will take place on 7 December in conjunction with the final banquet of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships Yerevan 2012.
