The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection is committed to expanding market opportunities and has already started work on 31 new markets to which Ukrainian companies want to export.

Serhii Tkachuk, the head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

He noted that last year 22 domestic food producers received permission to export products to the EU. In particular, 12 of them are producers of poultry meat and poultry products, three are fish processing companies and five are dairy processing companies.

Honey producers were also “re-accredited” as the EU introduced a list of honey importers in November last year. Based on the results of the inspections, 28 Ukrainian honey producers and processors were included in this list.

Last year, 39 export facilities for the production of inedible products of animal origin received approval, eight of which were new entries in the register. Additionally, the range of inedible products and export countries was expanded for 31 companies.

“The registration of market operators in the EU list is a dynamic process. Companies can be added or removed depending on their compliance with the requirements. We are working to expand markets and have already started work on 31 new markets to which Ukrainian companies want to export,” Tkachuk said.

He also noted that Ukrainian producers are reorienting their exports to Africa, the Middle East, and China, in particular due to quotas on certain product groups in the EU. Nevertheless, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection is ready and willing to assist Ukrainian businesses that wish to enter new markets.

The head of the agency expects that this year it will be possible to open at least as many, and perhaps more, markets than in 2024. Currently, Ukraine has the right to export agricultural products to 364 trade destinations.

As reported, Ukraine and the People's Republic of China have signed an agreement regulating the terms of export of wild-caught aquatic products and peas.
