Deputy Minister Kachka outlines three key sectors of Ukraine’s export growth
Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka said this in an exclusive commentary to Ukrinform.
"Agricultural products will undoubtedly be the foundation of Ukrainian export growth, as they have demonstrated the strongest resilience during the war. Metallurgy is also expected to recover. Despite the numerous security concerns, the metallurgical sector demonstrated remarkable resilience and experienced significant growth last year," Kachka explained.
He noted that the most significant technological advancement is occurring in the defense industry, which is subsequently stimulating growth in related sectors.
"The defense industry is not only a traditional military-industrial complex, but also encompasses related manufacturers that are also industrial. I anticipate that this sector will emerge as a hub for new large exporters of industrial products integrated with the European Union," Kachka emphasized.
According to him, in trade with the European Union, significant emphasis is currently placed on industrial cooperation.
"In the EU, however, the primary focus is not on tariffs, but rather on other requirements, such as product certification and laboratory tests," stated Ukraine's trade representative.
In terms of geography, Kachka underscored that the primary markets will continue to be the European Union and broader Europe, other European countries, the Mediterranean region, and the Middle East and North Africa. These regions are projected to account for the majority of Ukraine's exports.
"Even when considering the fact that both China and Southeast Asia are undergoing active development, these regions account for three-quarters, if not more, of our exports," he added.
As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine aims to increase exports to $77 billion over the next five years.
