Investors in Ukraine interested in solar energy – expert

Investors are interested in solar energy today with a view of a quick entry into the market, according to an expert.

"At present, we see the greatest activity in the solar energy [sector]. Across Ukraine, it is the most popular sort [of energy]. I think this is because it is the fastest way to enter the market. It is possible to launch a solar station already in six months, while in other industries, it will take longer time," Rodion Morozov, Director of Environmental Reengineering and Implementation of Resource Conservation Projects at PJSC Ukrgasbank, told journalists, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In addition, according to him, apart from a rapid entry into the market, the full absence of operating costs for maintaining a facility plays an important factor.

"When it is already installed, it operates by itself," Morozov said.

At the same time, he added that solar power facilities have a longer payback period than other alternative energy sectors.

As Ukrinform earlier reported, in the first quarter of 2017, the number of Ukrainian households that installed solar panels grew almost five times compared with the beginning of 2016 – from 244 to 1,309.
