Ukrainian defense companies to receive EUR 1.4B under ‘Danish model’ this year

He made the statement during a press conference following an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Copenhagen on August 29, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

The “Danish model” has proven highly successful over the past year, with EUR 600 million already invested in Ukrainian defense companies, said Poulsen. He anticipates that this year’s investment will more than double, reaching EUR 1.4 billion.

He noted the rapid pace of Ukraine’s defense industry, which produces equipment within months, not years. The minister also highlighted the model’s cost-effectiveness and stressed the need for expanded efforts in this area.

He also expressed hope that in the coming weeks, the first Ukrainian defense company will begin production on Danish territory under secure conditions, with other enterprises expected to follow later this year.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, last year the Armed Forces of Ukraine received nearly EUR 538 million worth of weaponry through the “Danish model” of defense industry support.

The “Danish model” involves direct funding of Ukrainian defense enterprises by foreign governments. Denmark was the first country to invest in Ukraine’s defense industry under this approach.
