Ukraine installs nearly 500 MW of energy storage systems – Ukrenergo
Ukrenergo CEO Volodymyr Zaichenko said this in an interview with LB.ua, Ukrinform reports.
"We currently have batteries with a total capacity of nearly 500 MW. By the end of the year, I hope this will reach around 1,000 MW, and this will gradually improve the resilience of our energy system, as well as its efficiency," Zaichenko said.
He explained that on sunny days there may be a need to limit solar power generation. Energy storage systems, however, make it possible to store excess electricity and use it later during peak evening demand.
Zaichenko also noted that technical conditions have already been issued for the installation of more than 1,000 MW of energy storage systems.
In 2025, winners of Ukrenergo's special auctions for ancillary services commissioned 423 MW of new energy facilities, including 398 MW of energy storage systems.
