UK speaks with nearly 20 countries on "coalition of the willing" - media
Sky News reported this citing an unnamed British government official as saying, Ukrinform saw.
According to the report, the talks took place yesterday, March 5.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the UK and France were leading the project that could see soldiers from a group of countries sent to Ukraine as peacekeepers.
The government official did not say which countries had expressed interest in providing support.
“It shows the willingness of the coalition of the willing to convene and the desire of a number of different countries to play their part,” the source said.
As Ukrinform reported, after the informal summit of European leaders on Ukraine, held in London on March 2, Keir Starmer said the UK was ready to support the initiative of the “coalition of the willing” to ensure the implementation of any peace agreement in Ukraine with “boots on the ground and planes in the air,” and that Europe must take on a “heavy burden”, but this requires support from the United States.
At the same time, Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp believes any potential peace agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation should include “deterrence forces”, rather than peacekeeping forces, with some form of U.S. participation.
