Canada ready to join peacekeeping mission in Ukraine - Defense Minister
That’s according to Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair, who spoke in Ottawa on Wednesday, Ukrinform reports citing CBC News.
There are discussions among the states that refer to themselves as a “coalition of the willing” (to deploy an international peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine - ed.), he said, adding that Canada is “ready and able” to join these forces.
“But we also believe that there's important discussions that need to take place with respect to security guarantees for Ukraine and foreign forces that we're serving,” the minister said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said the issue of establishing a peacekeeping contingent is under consideration, and much depends, in particular, on the role the United States will play in the effort.
Earlier, the presidents of France and the United States agreed that a European peacekeeping force in Ukraine should be part of the peace treaty.
