Russia continues to use the platform of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the so-called “World Parliament,” to promote its own narratives and maintain its international legitimacy.

This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Kornienko.

“Russia uses the IPU platform for its own purposes, including to sustain its legitimacy and promote its version of events, including through propaganda tools. This is one of the few platforms where Russia is still represented,” Kornienko said.

At the same time, according to the Vice Speaker, some countries remain under the influence of Russian propaganda.

“Unfortunately, many countries and entire regions are still either under the influence of Russian propaganda or simply do not fully understand the true causes of the war and the nature of this conflict. Some are still unaware of Russia’s imperial ambitions and its desire to seize and destroy our state and the identity of Ukrainians,” Kornienko said.

According to him, Ukraine was outraged that IPU President Tulia Ackson has repeatedly visited Russia and even met with Putin, but has not yet found the time (her term ends in November) to visit Ukraine.

The First Deputy Speaker emphasized the importance of conducting information work on international platforms to convey the truth about Russian aggression and crimes, and highlighted the active role of the Ukrainian delegation in the IPU in this regard.

He also noted that a specific feature of the IPU is that it includes all possible adversaries of Ukraine, including Russia, and that there is no mechanism to expel or suspend delegations.
