US Defense Secretary James Mattis to arrive in Ukraine tomorrow

The US delegation headed by US Secretary of Defense James Mattis will arrive in Ukraine on August 23 to take part in celebrations dedicated to the 26th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

Defense Ministry's Spokesperson, Colonel Maksym Prauta stated this at a press briefing on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The US delegation headed by US Secretary of Defense James Mattis will arrive in Ukraine to take part in solemn events on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Army General Stepan Poltorak called this visit an extremely powerful signal from the United States to continue consistent support of Ukraine,” Prauta said.

The Ukrainian defense ministry’s spokesperson also noted that the United States is the main strategic partner for Ukraine in political, military and economic spheres, and comprehensive assistance from this country is a decisive factor for the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in internationally recognized borders.
