On January 5, the Russian army launched five missile strikes on Kharkiv's energy infrastructure.

This was reported by Mayor Ihor Terekhov on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“The enemy deliberately launched five missile strikes on Kharkiv's energy infrastructure. We have suffered significant damage,” he wrote.

Terekhov later added that major destruction is inevitable when ballistic missiles are used in attacks.

"You can strengthen defenses: concrete, metal, shelters... But no concrete structures can withstand five ballistic missiles. The enemy deliberately launched five missile strikes on Kharkiv's energy infrastructure. The damage is very significant. This is not just a strike on facilities. It is a blow to heat, water, and people's normal lives. They are trying to break us with fear and darkness. To destroy the result of months of hard, honest work. To erase what we have rebuilt more than once after previous shelling," the mayor said.

He stressed that despite the strikes and the threat of more, the restoration will continue.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported that criminal proceedings have been initiated on the grounds of a war crime (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The type of missiles will be determined after expert investigations, the agency added.

Later, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office added that there was one victim as a result of the strikes.

“As of now, one victim is known. He is a 58-year-old employee of a company located near the site of the strike. The man was injured and is receiving the necessary medical care,” the prosecutor's office said.

According to the Kharkiv City Council, at least nine buildings were damaged, and utility workers are currently repairing the damage caused by the attack.

Earlier today, Terekhov wrote that Russian troops were attacking Kharkiv with missiles.

As reported, on January 2, at around 2:30 p.m., Russian troops struck a residential building in Kharkiv with two Iskander missiles. Six people are known to have been killed, and search operations are ongoing.
