Russian servicemen returning from front kill or injure more than thousand people – intelligence

This was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.

At least 551 deaths have been recorded as a result of actions committed by Russian servicemen who returned to civilian life while on leave, after being wounded, or following the completion of their contracts. Of these, 274 people were killed, while 163 died from injuries sustained as a result of beatings or road traffic accidents. One hundred forty-two offenders had previously been convicted, including for similar crimes, and went to war directly from penal colonies.

Overall, Russian courts—both military and civilian—have handed down verdicts against eight thousand current and former participants in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

More than 900 “veterans” have been convicted of violent crimes, including murders and assaults. Separately, courts recorded proceedings related to theft, car theft, and other property damage (3,000 individuals), drug-related crimes (1,500), as well as fraud, resulting in nearly 400 defendants.

In 90% of cases, Russian courts consider participation in the war to be a mitigating circumstance. In this way, the system effectively legalizes violence committed by military personnel and encourages impunity.

“The mass return of armed, traumatized, and criminalized war participants to russian cities and towns has led to a sharp increase in domestic violence. This testifies to the profound destruction of the russian law enforcement and judicial systems, which not only fail to deter criminals but actually encourage their impunity under the pretext of “service at the front,” the intelligence service noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, concern is growing in the Kremlin over a potential surge in crime and social destabilization in the Russian Federation following the return from the front of tens of thousands of servicemen, including former prisoners.
