Ukrainian forces in Kupiansk manage to cut Russian troops off from supplies — Trehubov

Russian announcements about the capture of Kupiansk proved premature, and the situation in the city has become a dead end for them.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported on a TV broadcast by Viktor Trehubov, Head of Communications for the Joint Forces Group.

“Russian declarations of victory turned out to be premature. They conducted active offensive actions at the beginning of November; during these attacks, they began fighting in the city center and tried to push south. It seemed the situation was shifting, and that the city was almost in their grasp. They began reporting this first through Gerasimov and later through Putin. But the situation in the city changed not in their favor,” he said.

According to Trehubov, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully cut off Russian troops from supplies.

In addition, the units that entered the city found themselves blocked in its northern districts. This situation remains unchanged. The number of Russian troops in the town is gradually decreasing, and reinforcements are not arriving, as they are being eliminated on the approaches to the city, he noted.

At the same time, the enemy is attempting to act more actively, not in the city itself, but around it, trying to bypass Ukrainian defense positions.

“But as of now, the situation is deadlocked for them. And it is ironic, because Putin has already made a statement about the encirclement of Ukrainian battalions. Yet, there is nothing to confirm such claims,” the Head of Communications of the Joint Forces Group summarized.

As Ukrinform reported, Trehubov emphasized that fighting in the Kharkiv region remains intense, and Russian forces continue to rely on small infantry groups attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian defenses without being noticed.
