The number of Russian attacks on the Chernihiv region has recently grown substantially, whereas earlier the majority of strikes targeted the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

According to a Ukrinform correspondent, Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, reported on a television broadcast.

“Shelling has not decreased: The enemy, on the contrary, is increasing the number of its attacks by various means along Ukraine’s border areas within the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. Recently, the number of attacks on the Chernihiv region has risen significantly, since earlier the majority of attacks occurred within the Sumy and Kharkiv regions,” he said.

According to Demchenko, this year the Russians have significantly intensified the use of drones — in particular, they are deploying unmanned aerial vehicles to drop munitions, as well as using fiber-optic and FPV drones.

At the same time, the spokesperson noted that enemy activity has somewhat decreased lately in the Vovchansk sector, where defense lines are held by border guard units, among others. However, Russian forces continue their attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory.

“The most difficult situation remains in the Kupiansk sector. The enemy continues assault operations with infantry groups. This also applies to the Lyman and Pokrovsk sectors. In the latter two, the enemy periodically uses armored vehicles, attempting to carry out assault actions on a larger scale,” he reported.

Demchenko emphasized that the Defense Forces are actively countering the enemy in this sector, destroying its equipment and personnel.

As reported by Ukrinform, 143 combat engagements took place between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian troops over the past day, with the enemy attacking most intensively in the Pokrovsk sector.
