Estonia urges Ramstein countries to allocate 0.25% of GDP to Ukraine annually

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has called on the Ramstein coalition countries to follow Tallinn’s example and allocate 0.25% of their gross domestic product (GDP) annually to military aid for Ukraine.

The head of Estonian diplomacy wrote this on X, according to Ukrinform.

“Estonia has long stressed that, for Ukraine to effectively plan and sustain its defense against Russia’s aggression, it must have certainty about the long-term support of its partners,” Tsahkna noted.

He recalled that Estonia has allocated 0.25% of its GDP annually for military aid to Ukraine in recent years and will continue doing so in the years ahead.

“Our calculations show that if all Ramstein coalition countries contributed at a similar level, it would create the necessary conditions for Ukraine’s success,” the Estonian Foreign Minister stressed.

As reported by Ukrinform, Estonia announced in January 2024 that it would allocate 0.25% of its GDP to Ukraine’s defense over the following four years.

The Ramstein coalition, formally known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, is an alliance of more than 50 countries established in 2022 to coordinate military assistance for Ukraine.
