FM Sybiha initiates UNSC meeting to respond to Russia’s killings of Ukrainian civilians
According to Ukrinform, Sybiha announced this on X.
“I instructed to immediately initiate a meeting of the UN Security Council and to use other international platforms to respond to Russia’s killings of Ukrainian civilians and attacks against humanitarian personnel,” he wrote.
He noted that in Kyiv, Russia’s latest terrorist strike killed at least eight people and injured dozens more. The death toll may rise, as around twenty people are still reported missing.
Sybiha added that since 18:00 on May 13 to 08:00 on May 14, Russia had launched 675 drones and 56 missiles, including ballistic ones, damaging 11 residential buildings in Kyiv and more than 50 across Ukraine. He said the scale of the attacks requires a strong international response and urged all states to react.
The minister also said he had instructed all Ukrainian embassies to lower flags and open books of condolences. Additionally, foreign ambassadors in Kyiv will be invited to visit one of the sites where a Russian strike destroyed part of a residential high-rise building.
“The world must see that Russia’s response to all of our constructive peace proposals is more terror and violence, and act accordingly,” he stressed.
As reported earlier, Kyiv declared May 15 a day of mourning for the victims of the May 14 Russian attack.
