A memorial was held in Ukraine to honor a U.S. national, Nicholas Maimer, who was killed in action near Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine as part of the 135th Territorial Defense Battalion which he had volunteered to join.

That's according to the 114th Territorial Defense Brigade press service, Ukrinform reports.

“Brother in arms, today your body is already on the way to America, but your warrior spirit is with us forever! To give one's life is the greatest feat, but Nick's life was filled with small daily feats of self-sacrifice and service to a greater purpose,” the 114th Territorial Defense Brigade wrote on Facebook, posting a video of the event.
