Death toll in Russian strike on Dnipro rises to 18

The death toll in yesterday's Russian missile strike on an apartment block in Dnipro city has risen to 18 people.

"As of this morning, 18 people were killed with a Russian missile in their house in Dnipro. 73 people are injured – more than 40 of them are in hospitals, four people in serious condition are in intensive care units. The rescue operation is ongoing. The fate of more than 40 people remains unknown," Valentyn Reznichenko, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, posted on Telegram.

According to him, the attack on the apartment block destroyed 72 apartments and damaged more than 230. Firefighters are still putting several centers of fires out at the site.

Earlier, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported 17 killed in the attack.

"As of 06:00, January 15, 38 people (including 6 children) were rescued. The attack killed 17 people (including 1 child) and injured 73 people (including 14 children)," the State Emergency Service of Ukraine posted on Telegram.

Four Emergency Service tents and one volunteer tent were set up, food was provided. Psychologists of the State Emergency Service provided assistance to 40 survivors.

Search and rescue operations and the removal of dangerous structural elements are ongoing.

A total of 520 people and 140 units of equipment are involved in the works.

In addition, four canine teams of the Interregional Rapid Response Center of the State Emergency Service (Romny town) and 20 rescuers and 4 units of the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Center of the State Emergency Service (Kyiv city) work at the site.

As reported, Dnipro city authorities declared a three-day mourning for the Russian missile attack victims.
