Ukraine downs 503 drones, four Iskander-K missiles in massive overnight Russian attack

Ukraine's air defense forces neutralized four Iskander-K cruise missiles and 503 drones launched by Russian forces during a large-scale overnight attack that began on the evening of May 17.

The Ukrainian Air Force announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

Beginning at 18:00 on May 17, Russia launched a combined strike involving attack drones and ground-launched missiles targeting several regions across Ukraine. The main target was the city of Dnipro and the Dnipropetrovsk region. The Odesa, Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia regions also came under attack.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, radio-technical units detected a total of 546 aerial targets (22 missiles and 524 drones), including:

  • 14 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles launched from Russia's Rostov region and occupied Crimea;
  • eight Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from occupied Crimea.
  • 524 UAVs, including Shahed-type attack UAVs, Gerbera, Italmas and Parodiya decoy drones, launched from the Russian regions of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from occupied Donetsk region and occupied Crimea.

The attack was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems forces and mobile fire groups.

According to preliminary data as of 08:30, Ukrainian air defenses destroyed or suppressed 507 aerial targets, including:

  • four Iskander-K cruise missiles;
  • 503 enemy drones of various types.

The Ukrainian military reported impacts from 18 missiles and 16 attack drones at 34 locations. Debris from intercepted drones fell in 11 locations.

The Air Force added that the attack was ongoing, with several Russian drones still detected in Ukrainian airspace.
