On the occasion of Independence Day, a joint prayer for Ukraine took place at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv.
To mark Ukraine’s Independence Day, a giant national flag was raised at the Odesa Lighthouse.
Ceremonial events took place in central Kyiv to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day.
On the evening of August 23, on the eve of the Independence Day of Ukraine, the building of the European Council in Brussels was illuminated in blue and yellow colors.

Today, evacuation measures are continuing in a number of frontline regions, most notably in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk. The total number of people requiring evacuation is almost 1,100,000, of whom 84,000 are children and 16,000 are citizens with reduced mobility.
The return of 65 citizens from the buffer zone on the Russian-Georgian border was organized upon President Zelensky's directive. Among them are 10 women, 8 severely ill.
Ninety-eight political prisoners from Crimea, unlawfully held in Russian penitentiary facilities or in temporarily occupied territories, are in urgent need of medical assistance.
