One hundred wild animals released into wild at Ecopark near Kharkiv

Oatmeal, hempfinches, goldfinches, goldfinches, bullfinches, ducks, turtles, hares, squirrels and wild boars were released - almost a hundred individuals in total.

As the organizers of the event explained, these are animals that people find helpless, injured and bring to the complex, and wild birds are often bought from poachers and traders. Some of them are brought by people who are forced to leave their homes because of the war and cannot take their animals with them.

“Today we release animals that have been rehabilitated for a certain period of time. The animals have different stories. Now, for example, people bring squirrels that have fallen out of the nest, rabbits that have been rescued from cats or dogs. Some of them stay with us for lifelong rehabilitation, such as birds with broken wings,” the administrator of the animal veterinary department of Feldman Ecopark Yurii Hoshovskyi says.

The release of animals is a common practice for the park, the head of the Feldman Ecopark NGO Ivan Dostov.

“It is one of our traditional actions. We return animals to their natural environment,” Dostov said.

According to him, it is planned to release roes into the wild soon.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, a baby orangutan was born in Feldman Ecopark.

The Ecopark is a popular vacation spot for the residents of Kharkiv and the region. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the complex was on the line of fire. Russian shelling killed six people (employees and volunteers, including a 16-year-old boy) who were feeding and trying to take out the animal collection. Some animals were shot by Russians in their enclosures. Subsequently, they began to rebuild the complex, gradually returning the animals from the evacuation. But with the beginning of a new Russian offensive in the north of Kharkiv region in 2024, the territory of the Ecopark is again periodically shelled.
