The United Nations General Assembly plans to hold a special meeting to mark the 35th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

Deputy Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management Maksym Shevchuk said this during a working visit to the Exclusion Zone on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Chornobyl accident, an Ukrinform correspondent reports

"On April 23, a conciliatory meeting for the UN General Assembly will take place with the participation of Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman Abramovsky and Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management Serhiy Kostiuk. The meeting will be preparatory to the special UN General Assembly dedicated to the 35th anniversary, which will be held in New York on April 26," Shevchuk said.

As Ukrinform reported, the UN General Assembly met on a similar occasion in 2016. In particular, a special meeting was held to mark the 30th anniversary of the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
