Ukrainian FM calls on all countries to join agreement on Special Tribunal for Russia’s crimes against Ukraine
According to Ukrinform, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy made this appeal on the social network X.
“The number of countries ready to join the Enlarged Partial Agreement for the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine is growing. We already have eight confirmations and expect more. I urge all countries to take this critical step and support accountability efforts,” the minister wrote.
He emphasized that the Special Tribunal is a critically important element of the accountability infrastructure, alongside the Claims Commission and the Register of Damages.
Sybiha noted that tomorrow, Ukrainians, together with their EU colleagues who will be visiting Ukraine, will mark the tragic anniversary of the massacre in Bucha.
“The ashes of Bucha demand justice to be restored. The Special Tribunal revives the spirit of Nuremberg. Its practical launch this year is vital not only to deliver justice for Ukraine and our people but also to reinforce the international criminal law, complement the efforts by the International Criminal Court, and prevent such horrible crimes from repeating in the future,” the foreign minister stated.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated in an interview with the agency that during the G7 summit in France, Ukraine received a signal that another country was ready to join the agreement on establishing a Special Tribunal to investigate Russia’s crime of aggression.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard stated that her country has confirmed its intention to join the Agreement for the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.
The European Commission has approved a proposal that initiates the process to establish the European Union as a founding member of the Special Tribunal.
