Sweden joins agreement on special tribunal for Russia's crime of aggression
According to Ukrinform, she stated this on social media platform X.
"Sweden has confirmed its intention to join the Agreement for the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine," she stated.
Stenergard added that this is another step toward the creation of the tribunal, of which Sweden will be one of the founding members. "We must ensure accountability for Russian crimes against Ukraine," the statement said.
As Ukrinform previously reported, on June 25 President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an agreement with the Council of Europe at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg on the establishment of a Special Tribunal regarding the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
On July 15, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law ratifying the Agreement between Ukraine and the Council of Europe on the creation of the Special Tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
The European Union has allocated the first EUR 10 million for the new Special Tribunal to prosecute Russia's leadership for their role in the war waged by Moscow against Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine should become an effective tool for holding Russia's leadership accountable and restoring justice.
