Ukraine calls for Russia's exclusion from IAEA: There is no place for terrorist state
He made this statement on the social network X, according to Ukrinform.
“Russia’s reckless attacks threaten nuclear safety. Russia is systematically attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure to create blackout risks for nuclear facilities — including the Chornobyl site and other NPPs,” Sybiha noted.
Sybiha stressed that while Russian officials talk about the “importance” of power lines, their forces are deliberately attacking substations, directly threatening nuclear safety and ignoring repeated warnings from the IAEA. According to the minister, this has nothing to do with the “Atoms for Peace” initiative and is the use of nuclear risk as a tool of coercion.
“Ukraine is intensifying its engagement with the IAEA. We call on the IAEA Board of Governors to react decisively and urgently convene a meeting of the Board of Governors and decide on the matter of Russia’s presence in the Board. Our position is that a terrorist state that deliberately creates nuclear safety risks has no place there,” he emphasized.
As reported by Ukrinform, several Ukrainian electrical substations that are critical to nuclear safety were damaged by Russian strikes on Tuesday morning, and the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant completely lost its external power supply.
