Macron calls Trump’s tariff threats unacceptable, vows Europe’s response
According to Ukrinform, Macron made the statement in a post on social media platform X.
“No intimidation nor threat will influence us, neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world when we are confronted with such situations,” he said, adding that he would hold consultations with European partners to deliver a firm response.
“Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Europeans will respond to them in a united and coordinated manner if they were to be confirmed,” Macron said.
He emphasized that France remains committed to the sovereignty and independence of nations, as enshrined in the UN Charter. However, he noted that security in the Arctic and along Europe’s borders is now at stake.
“It is on this basis that we support and will continue to support Ukraine, and that we have built a coalition of the willing for a robust and lasting peace, to defend these principles and our security. It is also on this basis that we have decided to join the exercise initiated by Denmark in Greenland,” the French President explained.
As reported, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 10% tariff on goods from Denmark and seven other European countries starting February 1, 2026, citing their unwillingness to negotiate the purchase of Greenland by the United States.
