A letter from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán regarding the blocking of financial assistance to Ukraine does not create new risks. Ukraine and the European Union continue to work on aligning their decision on funding.

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka stated this while speaking to journalists on Wednesday, November 26, Ukrinform’s correspondent reports.

“Hungary’s position has not changed in any way; discussions are ongoing. We have a dialogue and consistent work with the European Union,” the official noted, responding to a question on whether the Hungarian prime minister’s letter poses additional threats to Ukraine.

Kachka recalled that the European Commission had earlier proposed to member states three options for financing assistance to Ukraine, including a reparations loan.

“This provides room to reach a single decision before the European Council meeting in December, which will make it possible to approve the regulation on allocating the funds,” the deputy prime minister added.

Politico reported that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that Hungary would block all joint European Union decisions aimed at assisting Ukraine until Kyiv agrees to the terms of a 28-point “peace plan.”

As reported by Ukrinform, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that his government would take the European Union to court over the bloc’s decision to phase out imports of Russian gas gradually.
