Russia could end war as soon as tomorrow: London responds to “peace plan” on Ukraine

Ukrinform
The Government of the United Kingdom, amid reports that the United States and Russia are developing a plan to end the war in Ukraine, has stated that the Ukrainian people must decide their own future.

According to Ukrinform, The Guardian cites a spokesperson for the UK government.

Downing Street noted that the United Kingdom shares U.S. President Donald Trump’s desire to “bring this barbaric war to an end.”

They added that Russia could end its war against Ukraine “tomorrow” by withdrawing its troops and halting its illegal invasion, while stressing that instead the Kremlin’s leader, Vladimir Putin, “continues to send a barrage of missiles and drones into Ukraine, destroying the lives of innocent Ukrainians, including children and the elderly.”

“We welcome all efforts that seek to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. We have repeatedly been clear that only the Ukrainian people can determine their future,” the UK government spokesperson said.

He also assured that the United Kingdom would continue to support Ukraine and help it secure military equipment, while also “ sustaining economic pressure on people to bear down on the revenues that are funding the war.”

As reported by Ukrinform, U.S. media earlier circulated information that the Trump administration had been holding secret consultations with the Russians to develop a new plan to end the war in Ukraine. According to a publication by Axios, the plan comprises 28 points. It is divided into four broad categories: peace in Ukraine, security guarantees, security in Europe, and future relations between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.
