Zelensky: Now is time to end Russia's war against Ukraine
He made the remark during a brief statement to the press ahead of his talks with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"This is the moment to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Yes, we understand that Putin is not ready. I think he's not ready, but I'm confident that with your help we can stop this war. And we really need it," Zelensky said.
He stressed that Russian forces are failing on the battlefield.
"It's good. I think their army is weak now. They have a lot of losses – in terms of economy and people. And I think this is very important," Zelensky said.
He also said that he had met the day before with representatives of major U.S. energy companies. "They are ready to help us," he said.
At the White House, he also spoke about talks with representatives of defense companies, saying that the discussions focused on air defense.
The previous meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States took place at UN headquarters on September 23, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. One of the topics was the provision of long-range weapons to Ukraine.
Today's meeting was arranged following Zelensky's phone calls with Trump on October 11 and 12.
A day earlier, Trump held what he called a "very productive" conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Trump said he would meet Putin in Budapest to discuss the possibility of ending the "inglorious" war between Russia and Ukraine."
