Ukrinform
The Group of Seven countries will today announce a plan to provide long-term military assistance to Ukraine, which will show Russia that "time is not on its side."

That's according to AFP, Ukrinform reports.

The White House said that U.S. President Joe Biden and other leaders of the G7 countries - the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan - would join President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Vilnius to announce the plan.

"It signals a joint long-term commitment to building a powerful defensive... force for Ukraine... This multilateral declaration will send a significant signal to Russia that time is not on its side," lead White House advisor for European affairs Amanda Sloat told reporters.

According to her, the emphasis will be on "long-term investment" in both the military and economic sectors.

At the same time, the details of the proposed assistance were not provided. Sloat said that each country would hold bilateral talks with Ukraine on how to "make this a reality".

The United States and its allies are currently providing weapons and economic assistance to Ukraine on a temporary basis.

As Ukrinform reported, on the first day of the summit, NATO heads of state and government agreed to cancel the requirement for a Membership Action Plan for Ukraine and said they would invite Ukraine to join the Alliance after "fulfilling the conditions."
