Nauseda: Agreements at NATO Summit in Vilnius not to disappoint Ukrainians

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said that at the Vilnius NATO Summit it will be possible to agree on such commitments of the Alliance to Ukraine that will not disappoint Ukraine.

That's according to the national broadcaster LRT, Ukrinform reports.

"I have a feeling that we will (during the discussion of the possibility of inviting Ukraine to NATO - ed.) find the wording that will not disappoint Ukrainians, and that they will say more than we are used to voicing," Nauseda said according to the report published in Ukrainian.

He expressed hope that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky would come to Vilnius for the summit and "really get, perhaps, not everything he expects in his maximum plans, but he will definitely get a lot."

The Lithuanian president noted that he would not be so categorical as to say that Ukraine would not receive an invitation to join NATO "in one form or another" after the war. According to him, this is exactly what is being discussed in the Alliance.

According to Nauseda, the success will be if the summit participants "say more than they did at the Bucharest summit" in 2008. "There are definitely not one, not two, not even four states that would like a larger text (on the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO - ed.), and right now there is a dialogue between such states and more cautious states, and I hope it will end in a mutually acceptable way," Nauseda said according to the report published in Ukrainian.

He also clarified that some states will come to Vilnius with their additional support packages for Ukraine.

As reported, Nauseda has already expressed hope that Zelensky will come to Vilnius and play an important role in decision-making at the NATO Summit.
